Caring for Our Environment
The ESMC fab is committed to upholding standards of sustainability and environmental protection. In line with this mission, the JV partners are dedicated to constructing a green fab that utilizes both existing and cutting-edge techniques to optimize resource conservation. This includes energy-efficient construction, water reclamation, and certification.
A Practitioner of Green Power Initiatives
It is ESMC’s responsibility to make the most of water resources and maximize their benefits. For the best use of water resources, ESMC implements three strategies: water resource risk management, diversification of water resources, and development of prevention and control technologies.
ESMC’s committed to air pollution control and will adopt the Emission Source Classification method and multi-phase Best Available Technology (BAT) to enhance the performance of pollution control.
ESMC is dedicated to promoting resource circularity by optimizing raw material use and implementing innovative technologies for process improvement. By collaborating with suppliers, ESMC aims to minimize material consumption. Once raw materials are used in the production process, emphasis will be placed on on-site recycling to maximize resource reutilization and reduce waste generation. ESMC and its waste treatment partners are committed to upholding the highest waste management standards.
ESG at ESMC
Sustainability and environmental protection are of the highest priority for ESMC.
A key focus in the construction of the Dresden facility will be resource efficiency. This includes energy-efficient building practices, innovative water treatment solutions, and obtaining important certifications, such as the LEED Gold certification which recognizes outstanding sustainability and energy efficiency.
Like all TSMC’s existing fabs, the ESMC fab will have a high water recycling rate. Notably, a rainwater recycling system will help capture rainwater and thus reduce overall water consumption.
The ESMC facility will feature a green façade with approximately 93,000 plants. The façade will help to capture approximately 6.67 metric tons of CO2 annually.
ESMC will use 100% renewable energy when it starts operation, in line with the standard for all TSMC’s overseas locations.

ESMC will operate an advanced manufacturing equipment and solutions fab in Germany. It will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to advance fab operations to support the future capacity needs of the fast-growing automotive, IoT and industrial sectors. ESMC’s intelligent manufacturing environment will provide real-time information analysis, improved forecast capability, maximum cost effectiveness, and accelerated innovation.
